Adalynn Eller

Soprano Vocalist
Music Performance - B.M.

I was nervous at first to go to a school that was pretty far from home, but this department has seriously grown into such a safe space for me. I love coming into the building and being greeted by friends and professors. The community that has been created between each student is amazing, and everyone is so supportive. There are so many opportunities to perform, and there are even more that you can create yourself.

The CNU Music Department holds some of the kindest, realest, and most passionate humans I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Even professors who aren't a part of my curriculum continue to make efforts to connect with me individually. I feel completely welcomed and acknowledged every day, never ostracized. I also cherish my time in each of the ensembles I perform in, getting to grow with my peers and learn from the best.

Dave Stutts

Percussionist
Composition - B.M.

I’m Dave Stutts, a content producer for Sam Ash Music Corporation in New York. I’ve interviewed amazing musicians and celebrities. I’ve had the opportunity to help hundreds of thousands of musicians through our content that we produce. I have my music on major streaming platforms, and I get paid every day to sit down and create music and content.

And I couldn’t have done any of this had it not been for the CNU Department of Music. The education and mentorship that I received were incredible. And I loved that every day at CNU was lived in the pursuit of musical excellence, performing for others, and hearing real musicians play my music. It’s an indescribable feeling.

And to be honest, I went into the music program at a bit of a disadvantage. It wasn't until junior year of high school that I took my first music theory class, and began learning how to read and write music. But that didn’t stop me from applying, getting accepted, and absolutely thriving at CNU. Never once did I feel out of place, unprepared, or unwelcome. With all of this in mind, I encourage you to apply and become part of our incredible Alumni. I promise you, you’ll be better at it.

There are many opportunities to shine at CNU if you are willing to put in the work. I came in worried because I had no prior lesson experience. However, through dedication and the support of my professors, I was able to succeed.

Julien Monette

Pianist
Composition - B.M.

I'm a sophomore double major in piano performance and composition, and I couldn't be happier with CNU's music program.  Every day is a fantastic new learning opportunity in a near infinite amount of musical settings, from private lessons to a plethora of ensembles to more traditional classroom environments.  Every professor has a unique and intelligent musical philosophy that almost always manages to rub off on you in some way, and near encyclopedic expertise in a variety of sometimes surprising fields - not to mention the fact that they truly do have your best interests at heart and want the best for you.  For example, I've had professors that don't teach me personally congratulate me on my best recitals, and even promote my upcoming Spotify releases in the weekly newsletters!  The student body is fantastic as well, and after a few weeks here you'll feel like a member of one big extended family.  Any prospective music major will get something valuable out of CNU's music program, whether that means becoming a better performer, composer, producer, technician, recording engineer, sound designer, conductor, teacher, engraver, librarian, coder, or simply just a better human being.  Or you can try my workflow - and basically do them all!  CNU's music program is what you make of it, so if you're ambitious, talented, up for any challenge, and have a great work ethic, this is the place for you.
